In Dutch we have an old saying: ‘al doende leert men’. It literally translates to ‘one learns by doing’. And that is the way Aeres Training Centre International (ATCI) offers education. A practical approach that makes complex matters manageable for international students.
When it comes to education, you will find multiple learning theories. Among them is the experiential learning theory, or in other words, learning by doing: students learn through their experiences. It helps them to retain the information and recall facts from what they have practiced.
”
The level of retention in workshops and practical lessons is believed to be around 75% and higher. By performing a presentation and showing other students what they have learned, this could even be 90%.
”
A hands-on and engaging learning method has a higher retention level and also leads to higher motivation among students.
The trainers at ATCI are very dedicated to their jobs. They take various learning styles into account, encouraging and guiding students to optimally develop their competences, in line with the needs of the labour market in their home country. They bring a lot of experience to the table as most of them are from the work field themselves and have retained valuable lessons from their personal experience. Future employees, business and public sector are closely involved in the educational process. The groups are kept small, which provides room for personal attention.
“Every trainer at Aeres Training Centre International is involved with his students”, says trainer Helmich van Rees. “There is no other way; to be a good teacher you have to be involved. Without involvement a teacher can never have people be acquainted with his passion.”
As you will read in the articles in this magazine, current and former students of ATCI value the practical approach that is the basis of our trainings. They regard these trainings as challenging, inspiring and motivating.
At ATCI we believe that by giving students the opportunity to try things in real-life working environments, they will learn from these experiences. Our students benefit from a wide variety of training facilities like the poultry innovation lab and the feed mill on our campus, but also on neighbouring training farms. ATCI combines pragmatic, hands-on training with solid theory. Students develop their practical skills and strengthen their communication, presentation, and writing skills.
